Job title – Apprentice Groundworker

Location: North London Heat & Power - Enfield, E4 8JG

Site hours: 07:30 – 17:30

Pay: London Living Wage

A fantastic opportunity has arisen on the new North London Heat and Power project.

Lorclon Ltd, a Civil Engineering specialist, are looking for an Apprentice Groundworker.

There are no set entry requirements to become a ground worker but it may be advantageous to have previous related experience.

Groundworkers are employed in construction jobs throughout the country on a variety of types of construction sites. These could be on housing development, civils engineering, railway or various projects that involve ground preparation, foundations or drainage & services. Ground working is transferable skill that can be used as an entry point into the construction industry.

Duties will include:

Ground working – marking out and digging shallow trenches for foundations and services.

Installing drainage pipes, manholes & services.

Concreting – laying and smoothing concrete for foundations, floors etc.

Minor road working – concreting, laying kerbs, paving and re-surfacing.

As an Apprentice you would also use various hand or power tools and with further training and with some further experience you can be trained to operate construction plant such as dumpers, rollers or excavators.

If you enjoy practical work and want a job outdoors, then working in groundworks could be for you.

To be a groundworks Apprentice, you will need:

· A good level of fitness.

· A willingness to participate in manual labour.

· An ability to work well in a team.

· A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions (Lorclon provide appropriate weather gear).

· Good communication skills for dealing with the public & others on site.

· To be safety conscious and develop a good understanding of health and safety procedures and safe working practices.

· A desire to learn and develop.

This position is ideal for an Apprentice that wants every job to be different and learn a variety of different tasks and gain a good general understanding of the processes and methods involved in construction.

The duties of this apprenticeship will include the above plus any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role

Successful candidates will be able to start this career through our apprenticeship scheme and will be awarded a foundation to develop a career in construction and will be offered a route to achieve a NVQ level 2 Diploma in construction operations & civil engineering services.
