Following on from the success of the first General Practice Nurse (GPN) Training Programme in 2016/17, Enfield CEPN has recruited ten more trainees who are currently hosted by ten practices in Enfield. The GPN Programme enables qualified nurses to gain the practical skills and academic knowledge they require, over the course of one year, to become trained practice nurses.
The nurses undertake their academic learning at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield and are signed off at their host practices as being competent in the delivery of the clinical skills. As well as having a dedicated mentor within their host practice, the GPNs undertake a programme of learning at the University of Hertfordshire.
From the first cohort last year, we had four nurses complete the programme with three being permanently employed by practices in Enfield. Some of these nurses are now mentoring those GPNs on this year’s Programme.
