Museums and homes

  • Enfield Museum

    The collections at Enfield Museum, located at the Dugdale Centre, contain prized artefacts from all across the borough, including items previously on display at Forty Hall and those rescued from the 1984 fire at Broomfield House. The roughly 15,000 artefacts illustrate the local, social and political history of Enfield and include a social history collection, a fine and applied art collection, natural history specimens and archaeological artefacts.     Forty Hall, Enfield

    Forty Hall at Forty Hill is one of the borough’s most famous landmarks and the site of another of its ancient monuments – Elsyng Palace, the former palace of both King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The current hall is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean manor house and the former home of Sir Nicholas Rainton, Lord Mayor of London. Forty Hall is a heritage visitor attraction with fine architecture and stunning period rooms, as well as regular tours and exhibitions. Also look out workshops, family events and children’s activities. The park provides 110 hectares of open parkland, woodland and beautiful gardens. Visit the website

  • The Royal Small Arms Interpretation Centre

    The Royal Small Arms Interpretation Centre in Enfield Island Village has pictures and exhibits showing what it was like to live and work at the Royal Small Arms Factory (1816 to 1988), which was famed for producing the Lee Enfield rifle and the Sten gun. Visit the website

  • Whitewebbs Museum of Transport

    Based around the Whitewebbs Pumping Station, this is one of the last pumping stations built during the 19th Century to support the flow of water along the New River. It offers a range of exhibitions, activities and vehicles for visitors of all ages. The museum is managed by Enfield and District Veteran Vehicle Society which also organises the annual Pageant of Motoring. Visit the website


Enfield is home to two major cinemas, as well as Talkies, a touring cinema that has a number of homes across the borough and a very eclectic programme. There are also large Odeon and Cineworld cinemas located in the borough showing a mixture of blockbusters, indie and Bollywood flicks.
