Turkish food is a firm favourite in the borough and most restaurants will serve a traditional breakfast. Aksular, however, goes one step further offering an all-you-can-eat buffet every Sunday. The buffet is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. It includes various types of cheeses, salads, breads and preserves, borek, Turkish sausages, eggs, helva, roasted vegetables, dried fruits and much more. Included in the price is a selection of juices and Turkish tea on tap. There’s something for everyone and a great selection for vegetarians too. It all costs £9 for adults and half-price for kids – and you definitely won’t need lunch that day! The Sunday buffet is proving very popular so early arrival is recommended. Bookings are available for large groups and breakfast is served from 8am-1pm.
The quality, regular breakfast menu which is offered throughout the week is also very impressive and includes the Turkish Breakfast (bread, olives, feta cheese, halloumi, pastry, boiled egg, tomato, cucumber, tea or coffee); Menemen (scrambled egg with peppers, tomatoes, onion); Mantarli Omlet (mushroom omelette) and Sucuklu Yumurta (scrambled egg with Turkish sausage).
Ferny Hill, Hadley Wood, EN4 0PZ • 020 8449 3527 • Open from 9am (Tue-Sat), 10.30am (Sun), Closed on Mondays
If location is a big deciding factor in where you eat then Ferny Hill Farm is pretty unbeatable. The farmhouse tearoom overlooks the beautiful, rolling countryside in the north of the borough and is the perfect place to start your day on a sunny morning. The flagship offering on the morning menu is the Big Breakfast and is all you would expect from a farmhouse – hearty, wholesome and made with quality ingredients. The black pudding melts in the mouth and the sausages are very popular with customers. The scrambled egg and salmon breakfast is a winning combination and is an ample portion too. For those wanting something lighter, try the poached eggs with bacon or mushroom on toast. If you are planning on visiting over a weekend, early arrival is recommended and as the weather improves, the tables on the terrace are becoming particularly popular. Tables for four or more can be booked in advance. The farm is close to the Cockfosters entrance to Trent Park, you can even go for a calorie burning walk after you have eaten.
