Coal City is Enfield’s only Nigerian restaurant, again run by a family wanting to put the fun into dining out. First, the food. Coal City, which has been open since 2005 focuses on authentic food from Nigeria cooked with care and flair. Their trademark dishes include grilled Croaker fish with yam, Egusi soup which is made with protein-rich seeds and Isi Ewu a stew of goats-head meat cooked until its rich and soft. The staff are very willing to help newcomers navigate their way around the menu. If you are daring with food then this is the place for you. For those less diverse tastes, all the dishes come with a non-meat variation, so all are catered for.
On the weekends, Coal City puts on a buffet which is a fantastic way to sample a wide range of Nigerian food, without having to commit to one course. It’s priced at only £15 per head for adults and discounted for children.
In addition, there is a DJ every Friday evening so booking is recommended over the weekends. For those wanting a tipple with their meal, Nigerian lagers, soft drinks and even Nigerian Guinness are all available.
