Physically, we could all do with moving more. Yoga is perfect to increase flexibility, and to clear the mind. There are plenty of places to practice this ancient tradition. The North London Yoga Studio is based near Grange Park Station and offers classes for all abilities and ages. Sivananda yoga, based on spiritual philosophy, Hatha which involves more dynamic, flowing postures all the way to pregnancy yoga. There really is a class for everyone. Tai Chi is good for the body and the mind. It is based on an ancient Chinese tradition, evolving over the

centuries to become a form of meditative movement. Energchi Tai Chi offers classes in Bush Hill Park, Crews Hill and most recently in Winchmore Hill. Meanwhile Enfield Tai Chi classes are held in Windmill Hill and at Edmonton Leisure Centre. There are also drop-in sessions in Freezywater in collaboration with Age UK’s falls prevention service. Alternative, non-medicinal therapies are for some a path towards better wellness. Why not start the new year with a clean body and balanced mind?

There are several gyms brought to you by Enfield Council and its leisure partner Fusion with a huge variety Outdoor Gymof classes, covering a range of sports and activities. And don’t forget swimming – a fantastic way to get fit without putting stress on joints.  Other gyms in the borough include: Anytime FitnessAVM Fitness, David Lloyd Clubs, Energie Fitness, The Gym Group, Nuffield Health, Paramount Health & FitnessPark View Health Clubs and PureGym.

The thought of exercising inside four walls just doesn’t do it for some. So why not exercise outside – for free! There are 17 parks in Enfield with outdoor gyms, all of which are listed on Enfield Council’s website. Also, check out activities in parks, including cardio and conditioning at Hillyfields, Fitmuma in Broomfield Park, Nordic Walking at Forty Hall and the 5km Park Run – for free – at Grovelands Park.
