Shop ‘til you drop

Enfield Town street sign

Enfield is a great place to shop if you want a trusty mix of department stores, high street favourites and a few specialist shops thrown into the mix – and you want to avoid the roaring crowds of Oxford Street.

Each of the borough’s town centres, from Ponders End to Southgate through to Palmers Green, offers everything you need for day-to-day living, including banks, building societies, and independent homegrown shops and businesses.

And if you need some serious retail therapy, Enfield has that covered too, with three exceptional and very different shopping centres. All offer a wide range of shops and restaurants in addition to the high quality A10 retail park.

Enfield Town itself boasts both Palace Gardens and Palace Exchange, a short walk away from Enfield Town and Enfield Chase stations and a stone’s throw away from the glorious Town Park and a raft of brilliant independent and chain restaurants and pubs.

Added to the already heady mix is the relaunched Thursday to Saturday 80 stall market which was first established by Royal Decree in 1303 and which features a range of different stalls.

To the south of the borough, Edmonton Green Shopping Centre is a bustling mall owned by St Modwen with brilliant transport links, featuring 120 shops and restaurants and 40 market stalls in the heart of the community, as well as a post office, superstore, Travelodge Hotel and leisure centre.

Alongside Pearsons, another of the big draws at the Palaces is M&S, featuring a large Simply Food for culinary treats, a premium beauty department and fashion for all the family including Per Una, M&S

Southgate

Southgate has a bustling high street with a mix of independent retailers and larger chains. Recent additions to this mix have made the area an even more desirable shopping location.

Built predominantly in the 1930, and atmospherically similar to a village high street with many traders being on first name terms with shoppers, new faces are welcomed with open arms. The local chamber of commerce puts on two community festivals a year, which are always popular with locals and visitors.

Focus on food

Shop like an Italian

One establishment which demonstrates perfectly the Enfield phenomenon of fusing big business with thriving independent retailers is Marino and Roberti – a family-owned Italian delicatessen based in Green Lanes since 1983.

The place is a traditional Italian grocery store, which wouldn’t look out of place in Parma, where the family originate; and it stocks many of Italy’s premier brands and regional products, representing the best of authentic and traditional Italian cuisine.

There is a huge range of pasta, sauces, bread, preserves, biscuits, cakes, confectionery, coffee, wines & spirits and other Italian regional delicacies on offer. As well as specialist Italian cheeses and cold meats, shoppers can buy freshly prepared home produced pasta dishes and Arancini (Italian rice balls) for a truly authentic experience.
