Enfield’s male volleyball and swim teams have been crowned champions at this year’s London Youth Games.

The wins at the Finals Weekend at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace on 8 and 9 July capped a great season for the Enfield team which finished in 17th position this year, up three places on 2016/17.

The London Youth Games is Europe's largest youth sports festival.  It is now a season of events taking place over 9 months including both School and Community Competitions across 30 different sports. The competitions are part of the national School Games Programme.

School Competitions are organised locally by School Games Organisers, with the London finals hosted by London Youth Games.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Public Health, Cllr Krystle Fonyonga, said: “I’d like to congratulate all the young people who took part in the London Youth Games and competed on behalf of our borough.

“Organised sport is a great way of meeting new people, learning new skills and finding ways of adapting to changing rapidly circumstances, all valuable skills that we valued as we move into adulthood.

“The great thing about the London Youth Games is they are completely inclusive and demonstrate fairness for everyone, no one is excluded from competing and everyone can make a contribution to their overall team effort.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Enfield Council to all our competitors, their parents and guardians for getting them to and from venues and the army of coaches, school teacher and volunteers, without whom we wouldn’t have a team. I am delighted we are improving each year and I have absolutely no doubt that very soon we will be challenging for the title of London Youth Game champions.”
