A brand new nursery, offering 60 places, has been completed at Hazelwood Schools in Palmers Green. The nursery had a special celebration this week as it was officially opened by Diana Weston, Enfield Council's Head of Service Early Years.

The nursery opens during term time, has been custom built within the existing school and Children's Centre and offers 30 morning and 30 afternoon places for local three and four year olds. From September 2017 the nursery will offer a mixture of full time places and part time places.

The facility adds to the wide range of support for parents provided through Enfield's Children Centres.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Education, Children's Services & Protection, Cllr Ayfer Orhan, said: "This new nursery is set to create excellent conditions for teaching and learning for both staff and pupils.

"Every borough in London is facing huge pressure on school places and we have been working incredibly hard with the schools in Enfield to meet the significant need for primary school places in the borough and our £110+ million school expansion programme will provide more new places for children in the areas in which they are most needed by 2018.

"We have a long term commitment to improve facilities and provide extra school places in the areas they are most needed. Our plans are to build more schools in the coming years and we are determined to provide enough primary school places across Enfield to give parents a better chance of getting into a school close to where they live."

The Headteacher of Hazelwood School, Nicky Ross, said "We are really proud of our new nursery provision. The children have settled well and are very happy in the school environment and they are already making really good progress.

"We have a great Early Years team and they provide excellent provision for our local community. We are very pleased that Diana Weston, Enfield Council's Head of Service Early Years, was able to come along today and officially open our nursery.

"Currently we are providing 15 hours free nursery provision for three and four year olds. However due to changes in Government funding we will be able to offer a mix of part time and full time places from September. We welcome any questions you might have by contacting us or visiting our website."
