A conference exploring  the successes, challenges and opportunities for women in the arts is being hosted by Enfield Council.

The event at the Millfield Theatre on International Women’s Day (8 March) will take the form of three panel discussions centring on creating an environment where women can flourish in the arts  – a sort of Question Time where each panellist speaks for three minutes on the subject before a wider discussion takes place amongst all delegates and questions can be asked.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community, Arts & Culture, Cllr Yasemin Brett, said: “The theme of our conference is “Creativity Inspires Change” and looks at how we can encourage women to pursue careers in the arts industry.

“Women have and will continue to make an enormous contribution to the prosperity and success of our borough and this conference will build on the work we have already done and encourage the next generation of women to forge their own path in the arts world.

”To my mind women artists also need a higher profile, we are making progress and galleries are now beginning to address the deficit of exhibits by female artists women but there is still work to be done. This event aims to raise awareness of this phenomenom.”
