We have launched a campaign to tackle prejudice and eradicate hate crime.
A new campaign which aims to eradicate hate crime in Enfield has been launched by the council.
The initiative, which was launched with the Enfield Hate Crime Forum on Friday 11 March, will focus on tackling all forms of hate crime including verbal & physical abuse, vandalism, bullying, harassment and intimidation perpetrated because of the victim’s race, faith, gender, disability, sexuality or transgender identity.
Residents can report hate crime by ringing police on 101, Enfield Council on 020 8379 4612 or through the new Self Evident app which is available to download from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Organisations and Culture, Cllr Yasemin Brett, said: “We work incredibly hard to understand and build relationships with all of our diverse communities. Hate crime has no place in our communities and we all have a part to play in challenging it.
"We want to give people the confidence to come forward and tell us if they have either been a victim of, or witnessed, such behaviour. We will not tolerate small minded bigotry that results in people being abused because of moronic, outdated prejudices.
“Hate crime has no place in a civilised borough and every report we receive will be taken extremely seriously and investigated thoroughly, putting support in place for the victim and ensuring that the appropriate action is taken.
"We’re determined to put victims and witnesses at the heart of what we do, and ensuring that the right support services are available when needed."
Enfield Hate Crime forum is a multi-agency group that brings together various organisations in the borough to effectively tackle various strands of hate crime.
It brings together the work of The London Borough of Enfield, Metropolitan Police Service, Enfield Racial Equality Council, The Enfield Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Network, The Enfield Faith Forum, Enfield Disability Action and Victim Support.
