Enfield Council will mark International Women’s Day by streaming a new pre-recorded film featuring local women telling their personal stories.

The focus of this year’s event is on the national theme #ChooseToChallenge which has been designed to alert everyone to be responsible for their thoughts and actions, thereby creating an inclusive world.

The centrepiece of Enfield’s celebration this year is the newly commissioned short film ‘Enfield Chooses to Challenge’ which will premiere on 8 March at 7pm on YouTube.

The film focusses on a diverse and dynamic number of women in the local community of all ages and backgrounds who share their experiences of how they have overcome challenges in life, often in tough circumstances, to realise their goals.

It is hoped the film will inspire those who watch it to do the same and encourage women especially to feel empowered and energised.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion, Cllr Nneka Keazor, will be introducing the film. She said: “It is important to keep the profile of International Women’s Day high in Enfield during the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council has taken the opportunity to be innovative and has commissioned this fantastic short film. We hope all local people will take the time visit our Council YouTube channel and view this fascinating insight into the lives of some truly inspirational Enfield women.

“In times like these we must all support each other, therefore ‘choosing to challenge’ is the key to making a more accepting and equal society. From challenge comes change - so let's all choose to challenge.”
