Hungry pupils have given the thumbs up to Enfield Catering Service’s tasty new look menu.

A visit this week to Worcesters School in Goat Lane in Enfield saw youngsters tucking into healthy, tasty and nutritious food, including salads and fruit. They were joined by Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services & Protection who also had a school meal.

Featuring tasty treats such as summer vegetable pasta, beef Burritos, herb crusted cod, chicken meatballs and many others, the menus were exhaustively tested by hungry youngsters to ensure the food looked and tasted great. The recipes then made their way to more than 60 school kitchens across the borough in the spring term.

Cllr Orhan said: “Enfield Catering Service serves around 20,000 meals a day and parents and pupils can be assured that they provide meals of a consistently high quality which are freshly cooked on site, using high quality and ethically-sourced ingredients, so that they can provide the best possible standards of nutrition.

"For some young people their school meal is the only hot food they will have that day, so to ensure fairness for all we always serve food that is tasty, nutritious and meets their needs.”

All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for free school meals and children from families in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income are also eligible. The service currently provides catering for 55 primary, six special and two secondary schools in the borough.
