A drive to improve road safety continues this month, with Enfield Council offering free child car seat checks to parents and guardians on Tuesday 25 October.

The law states that all children under 135 cm tall must travel in a properly fitted car seat or booster seat, but research by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents shockingly showed that four out of five child seats are not fitted correctly, thereby endangering the safety of children.

The event, which will run from 10am-2pm at Asda in Southgate, will give parents and guardians the chance to check their child's car seat is the right one for their vehicle and that they are properly installed. Officers will also be giving demonstrations on how best to fit them.

Cllr Daniel Anderson, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "The fact that 80 per cent of kids' car seats are poorly fitted should worry us all."

"Enfield Council is committed to reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads and this great free initiative will therefore help parents ensure that their kids are properly secured when travelling by car."
