Enfield's Garfield Primary School has been included in this year’s Parliamentary Review which showcases best practice and areas of excellence in several areas of industry, including education.

Garfield Primary School in Arnos Grove is featured as a Best Practice Representative 2018. The school, along with other public and private sector organisations is used as an example of how to raise standards and to help create a template for future reform.

Garfield Primary School, founded in 1883, opened on a new and improved site in 2016 and this proved to be a catalyst to create an exciting vision for the school. In their Review piece, head teacher Karen Khwaja reveals insights into the importance of environment and curriculum in creating a successful, vibrant and inclusive school.

In the Review, Ms Khwaja talked about her aspirations when planning the new building. “I was fortunate to work alongside a strong and committed leadership team and a skilled governing body who were relentless in their ambition. We wanted the very best for our pupils and the local community. Our local authority, Enfield, allowed us to get fully involved in the facilities and environment we wanted to create.”

With an inspirational school library, a modern ICT suite, specialist rooms for children with emotional and social needs and additional teaching rooms, “We now have a school that matches our aspirations” she said.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Achilleas Georgiou, said: “We have many excellent schools in Enfield; indeed 93% of Enfield’s schools are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. What has been truly amazing about Garfield School has been the transformational impact the building has had on achievement, behaviour and in expressing the values of the school. Congratulations to the pupils, teachers and staff of the school and I am proud Enfield Council could support Garfield Primary in its vision.”

Garfield Primary currently has 425 pupils on roll and 71 members of staff. It is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted inspectors.

The Parliamentary Review is a guide to industry best practice, demonstrating how sector leaders have responded to challenges in the political and economic environment. To read Garfield Primary’s entry, go to: http://www.theparliamentaryreview.co.uk/organisations/garfield-primary-school
