Enfield Council is organising a happy family event for families and friends to enjoy a great afternoon. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music, festivities and fun-filled entertainment with side shows, surprises and a prize for the best dressed royal teddy.

Enfield's Mayor, Cllr Bernadette Lappage, said: "While crowds are gathering in The Mall for a picnic, we have organised an afternoon of music and entertainment in the centre of Enfield Town at one of our most popular parks.

"At this time of year our parks are looking magnificent and residents who are not having a street party can celebrate in Town Park which provides a beautiful backdrop for a royal get together wishing Her Majesty a very happy birthday."

Stage performers include: live jazz, brass band and a choir. Children's activities, balloon creations of animals and face painters will help to make the party a happy occasion bringing families and friends together for great summer party.

The tradition of two birthdays for British monarchs dates back to 1748 at the time of George 11. It was decided that the British weather was unreliable for a parade for the king's birthday which was 30 October so the first parade took place in June.

This year on 11 June, the Queen will watch Trooping the Colour at Horse Guards Parade see 1400 soldiers march by, plus 200 on horseback with 400 musicians and a flight past by the RAF. The great picnic in the Mall is on Sunday 12 June but in Enfield residents can enjoy their own great picnic in Enfield Town Park.

Town Park is easily reached by public transport or on foot from Enfield Town Station. The council's highways team has been working with local transport and police to ensure a safe afternoon for everyone.

Roads are not closed but the best advice is to travel to the park on public transport or on foot. Parking is available in Shopping Centre car parks.
