Cycle Enfield won the Sustainable Mobility Award for the A105 Green Lanes Project at the Sustainable City Awards on 12 July.

Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy, Shirley Rodrigues, presented Enfield Council with the award, which was judged the best project in its category by a panel including representatives from the British Heart Foundation, the Environment Agency and City of London Corporation.

There was tough competition from four other shortlisted entries, namely the Cross River Partnership, Green Gumption and projects from Waltham Forest and Islington councils.

Enfield Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “Once again Cycle Enfield’s pioneering efforts to transform our high streets and town centres, promote more active travel, and create safe and secure cycle lanes has been recognised as one of the best examples of innovation and good practice.

"There is still much to do but we are now beginning to see our ambitious strategy come to fruition. The changes we are making today will enable our community to make healthier transport choices tomorrow.”

The previous award given to Cycle Enfield was the London Cycling Campaign award for Best New Cycling Project.

Now that the A105 Project has been completed, the A1010 South works are in full swing scheduled for completion next Spring. Meanwhile, free cycle training courses will be offered over the summer holiday period.
