Time is running out to have your say on the proposed options for the green bin collection service.

The 12-week consultation finishes on Friday 2nd September so get your skates on to make your views known.

The consultation questionnaire is available for residents to complete online. If needed, you can get help to do this at the following libraries: Ordnance Road, Edmonton Green, Palmers Green and Enfield Town.

Support is also available to access the questionnaire at the Civic Centre and John Wilkes House, with hard copies provided where necessary.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: "As a result of major reductions in government funding councils across the country are faced with making significant cuts to the services that residents have come to expect as a given.

"In Enfield we have had to make £118m cuts since 2010 and have to make another £56m by 2019/20.

"Surprising as it may be, the green bin collection is not statutory and many other councils now provide such a service fortnightly or less often, whilst others charge for the service.

"Accordingly, we are proposing to stop providing the current weekly green bin service in its present form. However, we would continue to provide a weekly black bin collection and blue bin recycling collection.

"Nonetheless, I would emphasise that we will consider all the responses we receive to the consultation and weigh up all the options, before we make a decision on the future of the service.”

The two options identified to the current weekly collection service are:

Option 1 – Free fortnightly combined green bin and food collection service.
The current free green bin service, which includes food collection will continue, but will be fortnightly instead of weekly.

Option 2 – Weekly charged (£60 per year) green bin collection service with a separate free food collection service.
Residents who want to continue to have their green bin emptied weekly will be charged £60 per year. We will provide a separate food collection service every week, free of charge, for all properties.

Implementation of either of these options would save the Council at least £400,000 per year.   It is important to note that this consultation does not relate to the collection of bins with blue or black lids which will remain unchanged.

No decision has been taken concerning changes to the relevant services. Feedback from this consultation will be a key consideration in arriving at a decision although not the only one.
