Local children will have a safer journey to school thanks to a new pedestrian crossing installed by Enfield Council at Bramley Road, Cockfosters.

The new crossing, at a wide, busy road near the Cat Hill Roundabout, came as a result of effective lobbying from local residents and in particular from 11 year-old Naomi Lindop from nearby De Bohun Primary School.

Naomi, who has been supported by her fellow students and junior travel ambassadors designed her own leaflets to promote a campaign to get a crossing installed while other volunteers put together a Facebook page to keep locals informed on progress.

Naomi was joined by some of her fellow students at the official opening of the pedestrian crossing on Friday, 13 July. Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Guney Dogan was also with the primary school pupils to test out the crossing.

Cllr Dogan, said: “I would like to give a huge amount of credit to De Bohun Primary School and Naomi in particular for campaigning for the crossing and I am glad we were able to listen to the residents’ requests and finally get them the crossing they desperately needed. Those trying to access Chickenshed Theatre, Southgate, De Bohun and Oak Tree schools, the sports ground, local shops or just trying to get home now have a safe place to cross.

“Well done to all involved and again, thank you to Naomi for being such a proactive member of our community.”

Naomi Lindop said: "It took a long time to get here - but it was really worth it!"
