Enfield Council has told criminals “we’re watching you” after announcing it was deploying more mobile CCTV cameras in the borough as part of its continuing fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.

The high definition cameras will be deployed in areas affected by anti-social behaviour, environmental crimes such as fly tipping and other types of crimes which concerns residents. The devices are completely mobile and will be linked to Enfield Council’s CCTV control room where they will be monitored 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of operators.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Public Health, Cllr Krystle Fonyonga, said: “This is yet another example of Enfield Council building strong communities and taking positive steps to reduce crime and disorder in Enfield, reassure and protect the public and send a strong message that we will not tolerate a small minority of people committing crime and ruining the lives of ordinary, law abiding citizens.

“These cameras give us the opportunity to react rapidly to emerging issues and will help us and our partners in the police to act quickly and decisively to gather evidence and identify the perpetrators of the crimes that most worry our residents.

“These cameras will increase our ability to reduce crime and disorder in our fantastic borough. We want criminals to know ‘we’ll be watching you’ and there is no place in Enfield for criminal behaviour.”

Enfield Council has more than 350 CCTV cameras installed in the borough to reduce crime, aid police in arresting criminals and gathering evidence for prosecutions. The Council team is one of the most effective in the country and has won a string of independent awards and commendations from the police for their effectiveness.
