Schools in Enfield are making enormous strides with 94% rated as 'good' or 'outstanding' by Ofsted, outstripping the national figure of 87% and London at 91%.

Recent figures issued by Ofsted reveal that Enfield Council is now one of the top performing local authorities in the country. Having inspected all but one of the borough’s schools Enfield is now 13 out of 152 councils nationwide.

More than 50,000 of Enfield’s 55,000 pupils attend schools in these high categories including all six Enfield special schools which have achieved 100% rating as 'good' or 'outstanding'.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council's cabinet member for Education, Children's Services & Protection, said: "This is a remarkable result and I congratulate all our schools – those who have achieved great results and those who I know are striving for improved Ofsted reports.

"There are now just a handful of schools that 'require improvement' and I know they are on course to succeed in improving their last Ofsted results.

"Our schools have made huge improvements since 2012 when only 73% were judged to be 'good' or 'outstanding'.

"These recent results demonstrate the commitment of our fantastic school leaders and staff at all levels. Our continued commitment to support our School Improvement Service has paid dividends for children attending Enfield schools.

"Expertise and hard work shows what can be done. It has happened at a time of great pressure when school staff and council officers have worked solidly to create more school places to meet demand by improving and expanding school premises.

"What makes this result so great is that our schools have achieved these results when the demands of Ofsted made it harder. This is a magnificent achievement and I wish all our school staff and pupils a well-earned summer break."
