An explosion of music is happening this midsummer in Enfield Council's major venues, parks, local churches and centres.

In the run-up to World Music Day on 21 June, there are some great shows and festive events to enjoy.

'Enfield Sounds Great' is a year – long music festival supported by Enfield's Mayor Cllr Bernadette Lappage.

She said: "June really is bursting with songs and music and what is so wonderful is that it is happening in all parts of the borough – parks, local churches, Millfield Theatre, the Dugdale Centre and community centres.

"On World Music Day our Enfield Music Service which provides music tuition to children and young people is presenting a concert of solo vocal performance at the Dugdale Centre.

"June is just the start of a fantastic year of music in Enfield and we shall have many treats in store as the year progresses. Full details of all music performances at all venues can be found in the publication Enfield Festivals 2016."

Here are some of the highlights:

Saturday 18 June:

  • Enfield Choral Society 'An Evening with Gilbert & Sullivan' at St Stephen's Church, Enfield
  • Rock contest 'Battle of the Bands' at Forty Hall
  • The Lamb Festival celebrating the 19th century writers Charles and Mary Lamb & Organ recital All Saints Church, Church Street, Edmonton (until 24 June)

Sunday 19 June: (Fathers' Day): 'Songs and Laughter with my Father' Millfield Theatre.

Tuesday 21 June: Enfield Music Service presents vocal soloists at the Dugdale Centre (contact 020 8807 8881).

Wednesday 22 June: Jazz singer: Ian Shaw, Dugdale Centre.
