Support for young offenders

Youth and Family Support Service Youth Offending Unit (YFSS YOU)

Enfield YFSS YOU is a statutory multi-agency partnership service that aims to prevent offending and re-offending. It strives for excellence in the delivery of youth justice services.

The Youth Offending Unit (YOU) works with young people aged 8 to 19 who have been involved in, or are at risk of involvement in, crime or antisocial behaviour. Key aspects of our role are:

  • working to give the victims of crime in the youth justice system
  • carrying out detailed assessments that assess and identify risk and protective factors
  • writing reports for court and referral panels
  • advising youth and crown courts, especially regarding sentencing options
  • planning and delivering interventions
  • challenging and changing the ideas and perceptions of offenders
  • rehabilitating young people who have offended
  • reducing offending and reoffending

Case management

The aim of the YOU is to create resilience and social responsibility in young people. We use individual and group work interventions linked to a young person’s risk and protective factors to enact change. This gives the young people access to:

  • a case worker
  • a range of intensive and quality interventions
  • mentoring and support
  • mental health and therapeutic services
  • victim work and restorative justice projects
  • parenting support
  • substance misuse services
  • group work programmes
  • education, training and employment support
  • anti-gang and serious youth violence work
