Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is available to families who incur extra costs as a result of meeting the additional care and/or mobility needs of a disabled child.
Children can only receive the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) from three years of age, and the lower rate mobility component from five years of age.
Motability has launched a scheme to provide specialist vehicles to children in the UK under the age of three, who must always be accompanied by bulky medical equipment and/or need to be near a motor vehicle in case they require treatment for their condition.
All families of children who meet these criteria are eligible. Families can apply through the Family Fund grant scheme.
