Applying for a job with us

We advertise our jobs online with a full job description and person specification. This gives you information about the job, skills, abilities and experience that are necessary to be successful in the role.

You will need to fill in all sections of the application and upload your CV. If a job accepts paper applications, this will be specified on the advert.

We will be considering internal members of staff who are at risk of redundancy and on our redeployment register first.

We do not see your name or title when shortlisting your application, which is one of many initiatives to help make our organisation more diverse.

However, if you choose to put your name on your CV, we will be able to see this.

You should include information that covers the points mentioned in the person specification. You will need to show your experience, whether paid or unpaid, with successes and achievements to support your skills and abilities. We want to know about your individual achievements.

You should set out your information in an organised, logical and concise format.

If you have received a redundancy payment from us, you will need to wait two years from your last day of service before making an application. This will also apply if you are applying for a position as an agency worker or a consultant.

Disability Confident logo

We are a Disability Confident Employer and offer a guaranteed interview to all applicants with a disability, if they meet all the essential criteria for the job. You should fill in the section that asks if you have a disability. If you are shortlisted for an interview, you will be asked if you need any special aids, adaptations or conditions for your interview. We are committed to employing and retaining disabled people.

We are committed to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace. Our jobs are also listed on VERCIDA, the UK's largest diversity and inclusion focused careers site.

We will choose only those applicants who meet the essential selection criteria.

If there are a large number of applicants who meet this criteria, we will use the desirable criteria to shortlist them.

If you’re shortlisted for interview, we will contact you to ask you to log on and book an interview slot. If you have completed a paper application, we will contact you by email or post with an interview date.

Our interviews last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the post. You will usually be interviewed by a panel of two or three people.

We may use tests to examine your skills, as well as psychometric assessments to measure your leadership skills and competencies. If other methods will be used, you will be told in advance.

If you’re unsuccessful at your interview, ask for feedback. This will help you to improve in areas of development. You should review your knowledge and experience and look for opportunities to learn new skills to help you in future applications.

If you’re successful at your interview, we will issue a conditional offer of employment, subject to certain checks. You will need to complete and return the relevant documents within five working days.

You should keep a copy of your application with the job description and person specification for future reference.

Our checks include:

  • complying with our Code of Conduct
  • complying with the Asylum and Immigration Act Requirements 2014
  • declaration of any secondary employment
  • declaration of criminal offences in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The type of declaration will be relevant to the post and require either declaration of both spent and unspent convictions and cautions or just unspent. This will depend on whether the post involves access to children and vulnerable people or requires compliance with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
  • pre-employment health declaration
  • proof of qualifications and registration if applicable
  • Satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service check, if relevant to the post
  • satisfactory references
  • verification of your identity

After we have received the checks, and they have been deemed satisfactory, we will arrange a start date with you and issue your contract.
