Information for parents

Activities and programmes

We run a range of different activities and programmes for children free of charge on a drop-in basis. These promote enjoyment of reading and include: reading groups, summer reading schemes, after school and holiday activities, author visits, weekly stories, and rhyme-and-play sessions for very young children.

Our libraries have useful pamphlets containing information for parents and carers. They cover topics from nurseries, playgroups, parent-and-toddler groups, tutors and yoga classes in Enfield.

Tabletop games are also available for use at Ordnance Road, Ponders End, Enfield Town and Fore Street Libraries. They can be used by anyone between five and ten, whether they be school groups or groups of friends.

Interactive games and devices are available at Palmers Green Library.

Borrowing books

Children and young people can borrow books. For a small charge (PDF) they can also borrow console games, CDs, DVDs and other resources at any of our libraries. Our online catalogue lists all books and items available.

If an item is overdue for 64 days, we will involve a third party to help with recovery. A £10 fee to cover the cost of recovery will be added to the account. Parents are responsible for any charges, including the recovery fee incurred on a child's account if they are below 18.

Children under 11

There are books for all children under 11, including babies and toddlers.

Learn more about Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, and Story Time and Play in Enfield libraries (PDF). The leaflet provides information on days and times we hold these activities across the borough.

You can also find information for parents and carers of children up to 5 years old (PDF), or children and young people 5 to 19 years old (PDF).
