Equality Framework for Local Government

In April 2009, the Equality Framework for Local Government became the main measure of performance around equalities work undertaken by local authorities. The Framework measures how effective local authorities are in providing fair services that provide positive outcomes for all their residents, and also how well they are complying with the statutory requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

In March 2013, we were assessed according to the Equality Framework for Local Government. We were awarded an 'excellent' rating by a team of peer assessors organised by the Local Government Association.

This rating recognises that we:

  • have a very good understanding of our community and the different needs of our residents
  • are fully committed to leadership and partnership around equalities
  • are very effective at engaging with our communities, leading to high levels of customer satisfaction
  • provide responsive services and good customer care
  • have a skilled and committed workforce
